海水浴場の水質汚染
DENR warns of poor water quality in 8 of 26 beaches [BusinessWorld Online]
At least eight of the country’s 26 major beaches have poor water quality and may not be safe for public use, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) warned yesterday, following a water quality rating the department conducted late last year.環境天然資源省（DENR）は、フィリピンの主要海水浴場26カ所のうち8カ所について、水質汚染がひどく海水浴には適していないと発表した。どうやら今回警告が出された場所には、大腸菌が多いらしく泳ぐのは危険とのこと。
しかし、この8ヶ所については一般市民にはまだ公開されていない。なぜなら、状況改善の為の猶予期間を半年ほど与え、その間に水をきれいにしなさい、というDENRの方針があるからだ。
確かに、「このビーチには大腸菌がうようよしてますよー」と言われたら、観光客が激減してたまったものじゃないので、そこに対する配慮だということは分かる。しかし、何も知らずに泳ぎ続ける我々の身にもなって欲しい。。。
それにしても、海を観光資源の目玉としているフィリピンとしては、今回の件を重く受け止めて、環境改善に対して真摯に取り組むべきだと思う。他の国だったら、大騒ぎしそうな案件でも、フィリピンだと普通に流されてしまう可能性が大なので・・・。
